This renovation was a balancing act between preserving the old and introducing the new. Faithfully retaining the traditional neighborhood look and the integrity of the circa-1930 character home was important to the client. But the Californian bungalow style renovation needed to evoke a new energy and embrace new beginnings for the home owners.
They entrusted us with keeping the essence of the house while adding a contemporary tone through a careful mix of heritage and modern styles. As such, the classical composition of the home — brick, wood, glass, marble and stone — was opened to reveal a liveliness that facilitated an intense appreciation of family connection.
